Cameras & barriers

How the cameras work

Many OPARKO sites use automatic number-plate recognition (ANPR). Here is what that means for you as a driver.

In short

On camera sites, a camera reads your number plate as you drive in, so there is no ticket to display. Your plate is checked against valid permits and payments for that site only, and all data is handled under GDPR.

What number-plate recognition means for you

The camera is your ticket

A camera reads your number plate as you drive in. There is nothing to display in your windscreen and no paper ticket to keep.

Matched, not tracked

Your plate is checked only against valid permits and payments for that site. It is not shared or used to follow you elsewhere, and all data is handled under GDPR.

Barriers open on their own

With a valid permit or completed payment, any barrier opens automatically. On free-but-timed sites, your stay is timed from entry to exit, with nothing to do.

How the barriers behave

With a valid permit or payment

The barrier opens automatically as you arrive or leave. There is nothing to scan.

On free-but-timed sites

There may be no barrier at all. Your stay is simply timed from entry to exit, so leave within the posted limit.

If a barrier does not open

Use the help or intercom button at the barrier, or call the number on the sign. If your permit or payment was valid, we will sort it out.

Your data and your privacy

Number-plate recognition is designed to charge fairly, not to follow you.

Matched to that site only

Your plate is compared with the permits and payments for the site you are on, and nothing more.

Kept to what is needed

Images and plate data are used to manage parking on that site, not to build a profile of you.

Handled under GDPR, hosted in the EU

Your data is processed lawfully and stored on EU infrastructure.

Common questions about cameras

Do I need a ticket or something in my windscreen?

No. On camera sites the camera is your ticket, so there is nothing to display.

Is my number plate shared or used to track me?

No. It is checked only against permits and payments for that site, and handled under GDPR.

The barrier did not open, what should I do?

Use the intercom at the barrier or call the number on the sign. If you had a valid permit or payment, we will put it right.

Are you a parking operator?

OPARKO cameras read plates, open barriers and check permits automatically.
